An Air Force term for what happens to test pilots when their planes/ helicopters/ rocket sleds crash. When an aluminum and carbon fiber aircraft meets the desert floor at 400+ mph, there is so little left of anything, let alone parts of the pilot suitable for interment, that "burned beyond recognition" is actually a euphemism employed to spare the feelings of the bereaved family.
