The site of the 1839 Chartist insurrection in Newport. At the corner of High Street and Commercial Street stands the imposing Westgate Hotel, a spot sacred to many in Britain, especially those in the Labour Movement. Although the building was rebuilt in 1886 the pillars in the entrance still bear the bullet holes as a reminder of that fateful night in November 1839.
