Some kids, but only some, are bright enough to pull off what is described in this book. Many teenagers are too short-sighted and not self-motivated enough to do it; I certainly wasn't. But, for those special few, this book is a holy volume.

It describes in some detail how to "quit (high) school and get a real life and education". It is a very inspiring idea, but you have to really want to do it. It describes the high-falutin' ideals of "unschooling" as well as the nuts and bolts of what to do and where to go. But again, you have to really want to do it. It's a risk. But do you wanna die without any scars on you?

If high school is hell and you know you can do better, read this book. It will change your life. Grace Llewellyn wants you to be a better person.

The full title of this book is The Teenage Liberation Handbook: How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education by Grace Llewellyn. If I could go back in time and give one book to myself as a kid, it would be this. The idea of the book: School is both a waste of time (because the student is forced to spend time on busywork that doesn't interest him) and psychologically unhealthy because the student isn't permitted to take responsibility for his own learning. See also unschooling.
