From Chicago. Originally a family gospel music group, led by Dad - Roebuck "Pops" Staples (not a typo), who was also a great homebrew guitarist like Curtis Mayfield. The star of the group was daughter Mavis, who sang them to rhythm and blues successes. Bealtitude: Respect Yourself (1972) is One For The Ages, and one of Mick Jagger's faves, with hits like "I'll Take You There" and "Respect Yourself". They later sang the Curtis-penned theme for the film Let's Do it Again.
