Robert James Smith, lead singer of The Cure, was born on April 21, 1959 in Blackpool, England. He was involved in several small bands, including Obelisks (1972), Malice (1976) and eventually, The Easy Cure (1977), renamed The Cure in 1978.
Aside from being the lead singer of the Goth rock band, he is just about the only constant member, having fired or fallen out with all of his former bandmates.
Almost annually since 1986, Smith has threatened to break up The Cure, but has yet to do so.
Today, he lives in a small town on the south coast of England with his wife Mary, whom he married on August 13, 1988 after a fifteen-year romance. He has yet to kill himself. |
