Opera by Giuseppe Verdi, based on the play Le Roi s'amuse, by Victor Hugo. It takes place in 16th century Mantua. Rigoletto, a Duke's jester, plots to assassinate the Duke for destroying his daughter's honour. However, a curse called upon him by the father of another woman seduced by the Duke causes him great misfortune. "La donne e mobile" is one of opera's most recognized arias.
