Great early funk
jam band from
Columbus (what state?), one-time
labelmates (on Westbound) with
Funkadelic (Junie Morrison, in fact, later joined
P-Funk). Led by Leroy "Sugar" Bonner, they ruled until the
funk faded in the Disco Age. One non-musical trademark, aside from Sugar's 'fro, was their LP covers - great use of the
*ahem* gatefold. "Jive Turkey", "Fire", "Love Rollercoaster" (of
Red-Hot Chili Peppers fame), "Funky Worm",
"Fopp"... The opium den/bordello of the
Mothership.
