Miss Kittin and the Hacker is the first full-length album from (you guessed it) Miss Kittin and The Hacker, containing tracks recorded from 1996 to 2001 plus a rerecording of an old favorite.
Miss Kittin and the Hacker have been riding the new wave of new wave revival that has cropped up recently in Germany and apparently in New York City as well. However, unlike some of the current stars of electroclash (as this style of mashing together electro and new wave is called), the Hacker has been producing tracks for quite some time, and Miss Kittin is both an accomplished DJ and vocalist. (She's worked with the Detroit Grand Pubahs, for instance) This is more than can be said for, say, Chicks on Speed. Shudder.
Although it may seem that Miss Kittin does nothing but provide vocals, she claims to have a hand in production, even if that means critiquing The Hacker's loops and beats rather than operating the actual equipment. All of her lyrics are improvised in English, which is surprising for a French girl.
The CD cover features The Hacker in a black leather jacket pointing a gun at Miss Kittin, who is curled up in a nurse costume on the ground. All tracks were recorded in Grenoble, France, birthplace of both artists.
The album was released in late 2001 on International Deejay Gigolo Records and licensed to Emperor Norton for distribution in the United States.
