The Minnesota Vikings are an American Football team that plays in the NFC Central Division of the National Football League.
When the Vikes played outdoors at Metropolitan stadium they dominated their division, winning the NFC central 8 times in the 1970's. Their defense was know as the Purple People Eaters and playing at home in the cold worked to their advantage. Since 1980 they have played indoors at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis. Their biggest rivals are the Green Bay Packers and games between the two teams constitute a season-within-the-season.
