Roman Emperor from 306 to 312
CE, a very tumultuous time in Roman
history. Fought the Eastern Emperor,
Constantine in 312 outside of Rome at the
Milvian Bridge, now called Ponte Molle. The smaller army of Constantine, reportedly strengthed through the intervention of
God, routed Maxentius and his troops. While retreating back across the bridge, he fell off and was
drowned. Constantine took
Rome and became emperor, eventually making
Christianity the state
religion.
