| The place immortalized in the Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Lodi" is Lodi, California, a small town about 80 miles east of San Francisco. Primarily a farming community, Lodi's biggest industry is the production of wine grapes. Lodi was founded in 1869 and was originally called Mokelumne Station. No one knows how it came to be called Lodi, although one legend says it was named after a famous racehorse of that name.
In addition to its grape farms, Lodi is known as somewhat of a trucker town due to its proximity to Interstate 5. Lodi is also known for two annual events of regional prominence - its grape festival and its crane festival. Lodi has a population of about 60,000 and covers an area of 12 square miles. |
