This album is highly underrated. It's hard to put it into one category, although most would say blues rock, this album can't have a label stuck on it. It has anything from blues, obviously, to southern rock, and even a little Bossa Nova ("I am Yours", among a few more).
The album floats in with "I Looked Away" and "Bell Bottom Blues", then into the classic "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out". Of course, everyone knows "Layla", an Eric Clapton/Jim Gordon composition about his unrequited love for Pattie Boyd - you've all heard that story.
The screeching "Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?" also illustrates his frustrating ordeal. The cover of the Jimi Hendrix song "Little Wing" is amazing, because Clapton is- well, God, and Duane Allman was the only person who could make a Jimi Hendrix song sound a little bit country. This was Derek and the Dominoes' only album - but definitely one of the best in Rock 'n' Roll.
