Some explanation may be required for our younger viewers.

• The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan to suppress Muslim insurgency¹, and apparently due to envy of Vietnam. Leonid Breshnev was leader of the CCCP at the time.
• Israel laid siege to Beirut in order to force out the Palestine Liberation Army.
• Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands (a.k.a. Malvinas Islands) in 1982 to gain possession of them from the British. England fought back. This was the brief Falkland Islands War. Three torpedos from the British nuclear-powered submarine HMS Conqueror sunk the Argentine cruiser General Belgrano during the war. The General Belgrano was originally feared lost with all hands, but in fact 'only' one third of the crew, 323 Argentines, perished.
• Maggie is Margaret Thatcher, former British Prime Minister. She authorized the attack, which took place outside the 200 mile 'exclusion zone' around the islands.
