The Medieval Latin abbreviation for Cambridge, as used in the abbreviations of university degrees, e.g. B.A. (Cantab).
The Latin name may also be seen in the adjectival form Cantabrigiensis, e.g. in titles of old publications.
For the county of Cambridgeshire however the ordinary English abbreviation Cambs is used; unlike Oxford and Oxfordshire, both of which use the Latin Oxon.
This should be carefully distinguished from Cantuar, the Latin signature used by the Archbishop of Canterbury. |
