Borat Sagdiyev
How could one best describe Borat ?
Would it be fair to begin with crudely announcing that this candid Kazakhstani fellow is just another act played by Sacha Baron Cohen ?
No !
Borat is here for us to love him. Beware: Even if you don't want you'll end laughing so much that you might just fall off your armchair. So, well, I guess it'd be better to let him introduce himself the way he did the day he was born : The day Ali G discovered him on Channel 4 "whilst flicking through the foreign satellite channels after watching the 5 minutes free view on the Fantasy Channel":
Hello English friend. What what what! My name is Borat. Like English Barry, but people call me Steve. A year ago I come to England and make many reportings. In this program you can watch them and also see more about my life in Kazakhstan. I hope you will like. It is nice. I like.
So, Borat is a top media person from Kazakhstan.
He has two wives, one mistress, one girlfriend and also "this one I have to pay money for. But it is worth it. Wah wah wee wee.".
Borat, as a typical member of the fantasy world he's illustrating, also loves animals. He's got a pet pig named "Igor".
The self proclaimed 6th most important Kazakhstani specializes in reporting. Some published works include: - Borat's Guides to Britain
- Borat's Guides to the USA
- Extra guides (only available on DVD - You gotta love Amazon UK where these are available for a ridiculously low price):
His "Guide to English Gentlemen" was rumoured to be censored after a complaint emanating from the Kazakhstan Embassy". Anyway, it's now available on DVD...
All of these guides feature Borat at his best, usually confusing his interviewees for our greatest pleasure!
There's also a movie which is scheduled for 2005 but after some problems, director Todd Phillips decided to withdraw his participation. It's not clear whether it'll be easily replaced or not. The movie was supposed to take place in the USA and Borat triggered the rodeo public's anger by singing a parodic version of The Star-Spangled Banner.
It's not the first time that his singing happens to be controversial: He's also well-known for The Infamous song: In my country there is problem.
There's no Official Borat website yet but there's still the excellent http://www.boratonline.co.uk which I attempted not to plunder in order to create this original write-up.
2006-02-23 Updates: - Many IMDb-ers recently attended a screening of the Borat movie. It appears it exceeded their expectations which were about how much they liked the Ali G Indahouse movie.
- According to http://www.borat.co.uk, there'd now be an official Borat website which address would be http://www.borat.kz but as of today, it has appeared not to be reachable.
