Astrud Gilberto

Astrud Gilberto's career was of course more than one sentence in a miniature write up. Astrud was the voice of Bossa Nova and Brasil, a cool cultural icon in the 60's and seventies and I'm pretty sure that more people had sex while her voice was floating through the room than anybody else's for a long time.

After making "that record" with Getz, Jobim and Joao Gilberto, she started a career that saw her writing and recording a plethora of songs and albums, including a new release in 2002.

Interestingly, she was riddled with stage fright throughout her career, which unfortunately limited her to few live appearances. She has undoubtedly been an influence of contemporary artists like Sade, Basia and Matt Bianco.

Good to see she's still around.
