Auction Poker

Beginning the game

1. Every player contributes the ante
2. Starting with the player on his left, the dealer deals each player three cards face down. Players may look at their cards.

On your turn

1. If you have any face down cards, you must choose one to turn over.
2. You may now:
a. Pay or be paid an agreed price to give a face up card to another player, or
b. Pay or be paid an agreed price to receive a face up card from another player, or
c. Pay or be paid an agreed price to swap a face up card from another player, or
d. Not trade any cards
3. Then, you may:
a. Fold. Turn all your cards face up and place them horizontally end-to-end to indicate you have folded. You have no more turns in this hand (i.e. you may not buy/sell/swap cards once you have folded).
b. Call the bet. If you are the last person to call the bet, and no player still has face down cards, there is a showdown…

My wife recently gave birth to our first child, a little boy.

Weird things I've learned now that I am a Dad:

You really need to get the new nappy on fast
An upside down index finger in the mouth is magic for a screaming baby
Pirates like to walk dogs. Well, apparently. My son has an outfit that says "Little Pirates" on it, and the matching shorts have pictures of Pirates walking dogs. "Now that we've looted and pillaged, I'll go and walk little Rover. Arrrr."

Well, I've cooled down a bit from the rant I posted called not part of Everything (don't bother looking for it, it's been nuked. I think the text might be on my home node if none of the editors have deleted that).

The thing that triggered it off was the story I have just posted inside my Batgirl writeup.

I'm a casual user of e2. I write nothing for months, then I will write a few writeups in succession then go away again.

My feeling is that e2 is becoming a way of life for some people rather than a part of their life.

So I have decided to post the way I have always posted, until I get banned, or find a website that is more like Everything1. In the end it is the editors who are wasting time by deleting my writeups.

Why the Liberal Party of Australia both is and isn't a liberal party (idea)

The Liberal Party of Australia is often considered, paradoxically, to be a conservative party. Although there is a case for this accusation, the true situation is that it may more accurately described as the "Anti-Labor Party".

This is evident in its history - the original precursor to the modern day Liberal party was a coalition of Protectionists and Free Traders. Similar ideological contradictions exist today with the Liberal Party.

Although, unlike the Labor party, there are no formal factions, there are indeed informal groupings based on ideological lines within the Liberal party. Generally these groupings are more personality based - ideology typically being used as a factional recruitment tool.

These groupings can be roughly summarised as follows:

The Conservatives, who are typically pro-monarchy, anti-immigration, anti-welfare, and pro-family. The current Prime Minister of Australia and leader of the Liberal Party, John Howard, is an avowed conservative.

Two minute noodle deluxe (idea)

Ingredients

2 packets two minute noodles
2 lettuce leaves
1 egg
1 large rubber band

Method

Put two minute noodles in saucepan of boiling water. Put lettuce leaves so that they are covering ears and secure in position with rubber bands.

In a squeaky voice, start ending your sentences with prepositions or verbs e.g. "Hmm.. Delicious this meal shall be"

Continue Yoda impersonation for about a minute. Throw in noodle stock that came with the noodles. Break egg into pot and stir so yolk is broken.

Tear off pieces of lettuce from both sides of head and throw in pot. Continue until there is no more lettuce. If you accidentally tear off an ear and throw that into the pot, discard noodles (and ear) and begin recipe again.

Stir for twenty seconds.

Remove rubber band from head and serve noodles with soup. Rinse pot immediately to aid (or as an alternative to) washing up.

Cheese fingers (thing)

8 slices bread
2 lightly beaten eggs
100g (3.5 oz) finely chopped ham
60g (2 oz) tasty cheese

Toast bread on one side, arrange bread toasted side down on lightly greased oven tray so that sides are touching.
Spread bread with eggs, ham and cheese.
Bake in moderate oven 20 minutes or until crisp and golden brown.
Cut each slice into fingers and serve.
