History

Reed College was founded in 1911 by Thomas Eliot and Simeon and Amanda Reed. The original class, enrolled before the campus was completed, was composed of 46 students - 23 women and 23 men. A.E Doyle was enlisted to design the new campus, to be established on the grounds of Crystal Springs Farm in Portland, Oregon. Construction began immediately on the dormitories that would become A-G blocks, each later renamed for important members of the Reed community and collectively known as Old Dorm Block, and classrooms in the Arts & Scienes Building, later to be renamed Eliot Hall.

Both ODB and Elliot Hall were built in the gothic style of Harvard and Yale, ivy and brick and gargoyles. It was intended for Reed to echo these institutions by being arranged in a series of quadrangles formed by buildings in this style. Some Questions
Are the flaws in Western society great enough to justify not imposing its benefits on other countries?

Would the woman whose husband mutilated her rather have no eyes than have eyes that were deluged with ads?

Would the women forced to burn alive because of improper dress rather be dead than have to over pay for the latest fashion?

Are these "consequences of belief in Islam", or consequences of brutal totalitarianist governments that form their laws from a perversion of Islam?

You're walking down the street and see a man beating on a woman. You're not perfect, you've raised your voice to your wife, maybe even pushed her. Does this mean you walk on by and let him keep beating her because to interfere would be imposing your flawed beliefs on him?

Further info: So it looks like the LAN's going to be set up at Chez 1337 courtesy of je weasel rather than the former generous offer of casa de qousqous. Anyone who wants to should bring a computer (presumably a laptop if you're coming in from a ways away), and we'll supply power and hubs. Also, any who have truly old school games that require gathering about a single terminal should definitely bring them.

Unfortunately, Pender's experiment should not set all our minds to rest, since as long as the camera was observing the sentence, Pender was "looking" at it in a sense. His observation may have been delayed, but the information conveyed by the photons zipping off the screen and into the camera's memory did eventually reach Pender's eyes. In fact, any means of observing the sentence indirectly will still convey this information, unless you never look at the result of that observation, in which case you will still not know if the sentence was transmitido en español.
