On E2 a writeup is the text of an individual user's contribution to a node. What you are reading right now is dem bones' writeup for the node titled "writeup." A user can contribute one writeup to any given node. If you haven't yet submitted a writeup to a node you'll see a blank text box below all of the other writeups with several buttons for writeup type. The different writeup types are person, place, thing or idea. There is also a definition writeup type reserved for the Webster 1913 auto-noded dictionary.
If you're a new user here please read the E2 FAQ, link and link and the perfect node before attempting the following.
To submit a writeup simply fill your text into the box and click the proper 'writeup type' button. I recommend you preview your text by posting it in your scratch pad first. Make sure your hard links are properly formatted and spelled correctly and your HTML looks the way you want it to. Then just cut and paste your text over into the proper node. When you click 'submit' on your writeup it will be displayed in the "new writeups" section of the nodelets after a few minutes. Other users who are second level or higher will be able to vote your writeup up or down, C! your writeup or, possibly, delete it. To avoid that nasty bit about deletion follow the advice in FAQ and other links provided.
There is a character limit of 64k for any given writeup.
