Belt, usually nylon webbing, worn by SCUBA divers to decrease buoyancy. Solid lead weights or bags of lead shot are strung on the belt in varying number, depending on need. Weight belts are essential to counter the extremely buoyant nature of wetsuits.

Weight belts are usually 1/3rd inch thick leather belts, approximately six inches tall in the rear and two inches tall for the strap. These belts are used to stablize the lower back, and prevent damage to the lumbar area of the back. When at all possible, their use in weight lifting is recommended.
