Note: Any diesel engine is capable of running on vegetable oil if it has a suitable injector pump. This includes the Ford Escort, Mitsubishi Pajero, Audi 80, and most Mercedes models fitted with BOSCH injector pumps.

Drawbacks to using vegetable oil as a fuel source include the fact that it must be heated before use, as it gets viscous and hard at low temperatures. Burning vegetable oil also creates carbon dioxide, which is suspected to cause global warming. On the other hand, it takes far less energy to produce vegetable oil, it is non-toxic, can be used in almost all diesel automobiles, waste vegetable oil works just as well as unused vegetable oil, and any waste products can be safely composted.
