January's early sunset brings the darkness across the road
as the edge of the forest comes across the frozen fields
covering up the quiet rows of grain

There are a variety of lights on the horizon:

orange kitchens warm with supper tables,
white bouncing truck lights, wide beams shooting down gravel roads
and way into the distance

a single signal light: green.
Patiently waiting for the only traffic it will see out here
on the edge of a small town with big farms
