| All Buddhists agree to follow certain ethical and moral guidelines. These rules vary from school to school and from institution to institution. What follows are the ten grave precepts used at Zen Mountain Monastery in Mount Tremper, New York.
As Buddhist precepts go, they are unusual because they include both positive and negative expressions for each rule.
The three treasures, also known as the three jewels are essential elements of all schools of Buddhism: the Buddha (awakened one), the dharma (the law or the way), and the sangha (the community, or all sentient beings).
I, for one, am not a practicing Buddhist, but I know if I could practice these ten grave precepts, even just a little bit, I would be a very happy man indeed.
