parenthetical phrase

A parenthetical phrase is a section of a sentence which digresses from the topic at hand. The idea is that the person using the parenthetical phrase adds insight to the discussion. Although, and this may be good or bad, it usually doesn't add insight.

A decent example (in non-sentence form) are the soft links at the bottom of each node on E2.
