MATH was a great Chicago band in the early 90s(now defunkt).

They has a chaotic, klezmer, tribal sound, with non-sense lyrics and mean grooves and beats.

A trio comprised of:
Jodie Mechanic - kick drum, snare, tom-tom, floor tom, propane tank, racon 22 tank, sawblade xylophone, civil defense water can, aluminum grate, NO DUMPINGsign, indian cowbells, cymbals, yellow steel box, big black pipe, chord organ and vocals

Michael Colligan - clarinet, vocals, sound effects

Robert Rolston - orchestral bass drum, pedal timpani, snare, bottomless snare, marching tomsnare, high hat, bongos, beautillophone, fire bells, cowbells, sidewalk curring sawblade, wahing machine basin (Maytag), sleep xylophone, school alarm bell, electric clicks, chord organ and vocals

They used to prefor regullarly at a space called "Milk of Burgandy" at 1947 W. North Ave. in the basement of the Flatiron Building.

They released one CD on Bulb Records called "Basic Math."

I remember seeing them play in the old Myopic bookstore on Damen Avenue for the Anniversary party for Qvimby's Queer Bookstore and Steven's 33 Birthday... I took some acid and danced, danced, danced while bouncing a super ball up and down up and down, over and over and over and over again... What fun!
