"To take refuge in the Buddha is to take refuge in an awakened person who has the ability to show us the way in this life."1
Even as we take refuge in the Buddha-nature-- manifested in ourselves or in another-- we allow it to take refuge in us. To protect the Buddha is to be protected by the Buddha.
