Front-of-house (
FOH) is the name given to the area on the
audience side of the
proscenium arch. Front-of-house is the name often given to the people who should, more correctly, be called the front-of-house
staff. (Led by the front-of-house
manager). The job of the FOH staff is to look after the
audience,
sell tickets, and ensuring that the
audience is
evacuated properly in an
emergency.
Other uses for 'front-of-house' are things like FOH
lighting bars which are, funnily enough, the
lighting bars which are in front of the
proscenium arch. Also, the FOH
sound desk is the one in the
proj box, as opposed to the
monitor desk, which is normally by the side of the
stage (usually only in big
concerts)
