A
circuit capable of controlling the
amplitude of an
input signal in a
periodic way, which adds
modulation to the input signal. Often used to
simulate the
envelope of
acoustic instruments. Simple EG's use an
ADSR scheme (
attack,
decay,
sustain,
release), where each parameter lasts a set time. An EG might be
triggered (started) manually, or be
free-running.
