Bench seats are an out of date seat design on some
roller coaster cars. The common
roller coaster bench seat is a flat-seat with no
divider between the riders. This allows riders to slide across the seat. Coaster riders will find these on older
wooden roller coasters and some
mine ride roller coasters. Most modern, or even remotely modern roller coasters are designed with seat dividers or
bucket seats to comply with contemporary safety concerns. Even the
American Coaster Enthusiasts (
ACE) group will not certify a roller coaster as an
ACE Coaster Classic without bench seats, among other requirements. A couple examples of roller coasters with bench seats include the
Cedar Creek Mine Ride at
Cedar Point and
Trailblazer at
Hersheypark.
