To backspace (on a typewriter) and cross out (or strike out) an error.

Sometimes used humorously, in the sense of "These idiots, er, I mean, these gentlemen from headquarters are visiting."

Represented online with the glyph ^H, indicating the backspace character. For instance, "These idiots^H^H^H^H^H^Hgentlemen from headquarters are visiting."

May be rendered in HTML with the S tag, like this: "These idiotsgentlemen from headquarters are visiting."

[rare] Whoa! Back up. Used to suggest that someone just said or did something wrong. Once common among APL programmers; may now be obsolete.
