Also known as
Marvin Young. Early
90s rapper. Performed such popular favorites as "
Bust A Move" and "
Principal's Office" (both songs featured
Flea on bass). Also wrote "
Funky Cold Medina" and "
Wild Thing" for
Tone-Loc, both
Top 40 hits.
Young's greatest claim as a
rapper (besides strong
rhymes) was his
college education and
clean image.
Young M.C. released
Stone Cold Rhymin' in 1990.
Bust A Move and
Principal's Office immediately went to the top of the charts, and the record itself stayed on the
Top 40 for 40 weeks. After that, Young recorded three "comeback" albums -
Brainstorm in 1991,
What's the Flavor? in 1993, and, oddly,
Return of the 1-Hit Wonder in 1997. None of these records went anywhere.
Young M.C. talks about his past success and his attempts at breaking back into pop music in an

"That record and '
Wild Thing' and '
Funky Cold Medina' were... Put it like this:
My album and
Loc's album were, for a lot of people, the first time they listened to
rap music."
