A term describing a stand-out feature of NZ culture.

NZers are fiercly proud of our celebrities and institutions, especially when they manage to achieve outside of our shores, even in a minor way.

(But we don't let it get to their heads).

Things that are world famous in New Zealand are:

L & P - a beverage
The All Blacks - a rugby team
Crowded House - a band
Rachel Hunter - a model, estranged from Rod Stewart
Hokey Pokey icecream - a food

The phrase, as far as anyone can make out, comes from the series of advertisements for L & P. It's vaguely self-mocking but cheerful about it, cos it acknowledges the phenomenon of fierce pride noted by Foaf, while also admitting how small New Zealand is.
