A Virtual Private Network is a network spread out over the world, and connected via tunnels. The tunnels are encrypted, making the network private. Virtual Private Networks provide an inexpensive means for corporations to connect networks at several different locations to one another, without having to pay for expensive leased lines. Instead, they can make use of their connections to the Internet.
