A book in Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series. Miles Vorkosigan is now seventeen years old. After failing the physical exam for the Imperial Academy, he takes his friend Elena on a trip to Beta Colony. He has many unintended adventures, and circumstances force him to create the Dendarii Free Mercenaries, whose activities are described in several later Vorkosigan books.
