The definitive dictionary of quotations.

I have seen numerous quotes, often detailed on websites, which paraphrase or misquote well known phrases or sayings.

You can be safe in the knowledge, however, that there's 50 years of research and scholarly sourcing behind an ODQ quote, as it "has developed the most thorough and reliable editorial procedures", with which to authenticate quotations.

Now on its revised Fourth edition, it contains over 17,000 wide-ranging quotations from 2,500 people, includes modern quotes and is edited by Angela Partington.

I am guilty of it myself, but if you are going to put a quote on E2, it's a good place to look before posting your writeup.
