The movie is generally heartwarming but of course has themeasure of gutwrenching beginning relationship/ political angst required for a romantic political movie such as this one.
Rob Reiner, as director, manages to effectively hit the feelgood points that the movie is capable of: Both the Romantic aspect and the Patriotic aspect, making it, while not quite in the same league, at least reminiscent of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington or other high-period Capra -- pointed out by the actual mention and definition of the adjective Capraesque early on in the movie. |
