The Zen theme is the newest and coolest of the Everything2 themes. It is a work in progress, but there is enough already in place for you to try it out. The existing stylesheets are also experimental works in progress. You can even try to create a CSS of your own at the draughty atelier, but it will take a bit of work and some guidance, unless you are already a CSS guru. To take the Zen theme for a quick spin, follow these steps:
- Go to your main User Preferences page and select "Zen theme" from the drop-down menu labeled 'E2 Themes:'. It is right under the "Overall Display" heading near the top of the page. Submit the change.
- After the page reloads, you should be looking at the default Zen theme, which is Kernel Blue when this was written.
- Now go to the Catwalk. This page is intended for people who are developing one or more themes of their own, but you can try them out. You might even find one you'd like to use.
- There is a rather long list of experimental themes. Click on one of the theme names in the list. That will take you to a new page. The name of the stylesheet appears at the top and there is a check box, a Preview This Style button and a Submit button.
- To just check out the style without changing to it, click on the preview button. That will temporarily display the page in that style. The change only works for this page, however, and the style will revert on the next page load.
- If you like the style and want to use it for a while to see how it presents other pages, check the Use This Stylesheet checkbox and then click on the Submit button. Now your pages will be displayed in that style until you change it again.
If you have any comments about a style, send a message to the style's author. The author is listed to the right of each style on the catwalk page.
To leave Zen, go back to your main User Preferences and select something other than Zen as your theme. Oh, you can keep the keys.
