A few words on this topic (I'll try not to sound unreasonably
harsh
, and remember these are personal opinions):
Having known people who've been really,
cripplingly depressed
, people who wanted to die enough that they
actually killed themselves
, I can say with some conviction that this sort of
public self-pity
is generally just that. People are feeling sorry for themselves (which is not the same as
depression
) and they want people, a big long string of people, to come along and see them for the
tragic figures
they are and cover them with kisses and compliments. We all know it's true because we've all done it.
If you're really feeling lonely and depressed, you need to
get the hell off the internet
. Go sit in a park and read, or find some other way to people watch. Go do something completely ridiculous and shake yourself out of
taking yourself so seriously
. Don't spew these empty, attention-getting
half-threats
onto a database full of people who are largely capable of hitting a switch and forgetting you ever existed.
Try and
think rationally
for a second. Isn't there a part of you that regrets doing this, that wishes you could go back and never have
put yourself in a position to be pitied
? And what the hell will you gain from the assurances of a loose network of digital strangers? Nothing. If you're going to go around leading an uninspiring life, putting more effort into setting up a facade for
unreal persons
than bonding with real ones,
you deserve what you get
.
Because, I'm sorry, I don't believe for a second that anyone who makes these sorts of writeups wants to die. The difference between this and someone who's truly
suicidal
is like black and white. Which is not to say I haven't known people like this who
attempted suicide
, or am unaware of their existance. But half-assedly (read: unsuccessfully) slashing your wrists and throwing yourself off of a building are very different matters.
When someone is suicidal, you don't get the privilege of having them spell it out for you. You're lucky if you get anything more than dirty looks and doors slammed in your face.
Shit like this makes a
mockery
of all the people whose pain was so bad they didn't think to whine about it
.
Clarification: There used to be many, many writeups here. This was in response to one person's 'Oh woe is me' writeup about how life sucked and she wanted to die or something, and the numerous people who came along and added writeups about how great she was and how she shouldn't go and top herself. Given that it
is
a response writeup, I honestly have no idea why it's still here.
