Inevitable result of changing ideals of individual members within a society as the individual suffers one-too-many wrongs, attacks or injustices at the hands of other societal members.

Self-sacrificing individuals -- those who strive to further civilize society by thinking on how an action may affect others as well as themselves -- become jaded, cynical and self-serving to an extreme, ostrasizing and victimizing those who still hold fast to self-sacrificing views. The self-sacrificing individuals become vengeful and very single-minded in their pursuit of self-satisfying experiences.

As a result, converted individuals perpetuate the phenomena in a foolish attempt to right the wrongs visited upon themselves.
