The time in Simon's Rock is measured by the bell tower. This time is unlike any time anywhere else in the universe. It is not the time in Newbury, OH, nor the time in Rhode Island, nor the time in Greenwich England. The time also differs from that kept by the official atomic clock. There are bells that ring on the "hour" when they feel like ringing. The average number of rings is approximately 5.39, usually ringing five times, with the occasional six rings and the occasional four rings. An occurrence of seven rings has been reported once, by a certain someone with a history of auditory hallucinations, thus the seven rings remain unconfirmed. The bells do not ring on the actual hour, they are generally off by a minute or two in either direction, but have been known to be off by as much as five minutes. |
