An artefact of the urge toward modernity of its era, this is a style of (usually shiny) prefab dining cars (as in train dining cars) manufactured by the Paterson Vehicle Company of Paterson, New Jersey from the 1920s to the 1950s. They were inherently portable, so they could be moved as traffic patterns changed and as the road systems were developed. Some of these still exist and function around the United States, where they make for crowded but funky diners.
