Located near scenic
Sumter, SC,
Shaw AFB is the home of the
20th Fighter Wing and the
Ninth Air Force. Shaw AFB is about 40 minutes from
Columbia Airport, and about two hours from
Myrtle Beach,
Charleston, SC, and
Charlotte, NC.
The 20th is an
F-16 wing, with 4
fighter squadrons (
55th Fighter Squadron,
77th Fighter Squadron,
78th Fighter Squadron,
79th Fighter Squadron), as well as the addition
infrastructure required to support them.
The 9th is the home of
USCENTAF, and in addition to
Shaw AFB, is responsible for
Moody AFB,
Seymour-Johnson AFB, and
