The Sanger Centre has an amazing DLB right over the receptionist's desk. The centre is one of the major contributors to the Human Genome Project (they do about a third of all the DNA sequencing). The DLB displays continuously the number of bases sequenced (both finished and unfinished); this is presumably an estimate rather than the exact number. But it also displays actual sequence which is new in the database. The feeling while watching it is of observing the Human Genome Project's continuous advance. And I was there in late 1998; the pace has picked up considerably since then!

This is an example of Digital Light Blinker technology being used for good ends.
