The question that will be put to the people of Australia on November 6, 1999. A referendum will take place in which the nation will decide one of two paths:

To stay as part of the Monarchy, with the Queen of England as our official head of state.

The forces loyal to Queen Elizabeth II quashed the republican cause like a bug. The fact that the proposal was to have the President appointed by Parliament rather than elected by the people seems to have swung the balance. Voting was compulsory, which seems odd to North Americans.
