| Also called The Penitential Prayer to Every God, this poem was found on a Sumerian tablet which dates from about the 7th century B.C.E. It has origins in Sumer, but is likely from an earlier period.
The poem is desperately sad, the narrator of which is calling to a god who has abandoned them. The narrator calls to both the known god and to all of the unknown gods of the world for forgiveness.
May the wrath of the heart of my god be pacified!
May the god who is unknown to me be pacified!

The sin which I have committed I know not.
