A standard title for a Communist state, appended to the nation's long, or formal, name. Generally, the phrase "People's Republic of" is used to indicate that the support for the Communist "new regime" comes from the workers and the people, rather than the oligarchy which typically initiates it. Occasionally, "Democratic" is tacked on to the beginning to really drive the point home.

- People's Republic of Bulgaria (Bulgaria since 1990)
- People's Republic of Kampuchea (Cambodia)
- People's Republic of Bangladesh (* not a communist regime)
A prefix, referring to a liberal community in a derogatory manner. Generally applied by conservatives (i.e., Rush Limbaugh), but occasionally one of the more fledgling communities will subtly apply the term to itself, in an effort to seem cool and oppressed in liberal circles.
It is unclear whether most of the towns that participate in this phenomenon are aware that half the other left-wing towns on Earth have already gotten around to it. Nonetheless, such "People's Republics" are prone to taking leftist, anti-government actions; Amherst's de facto legalization of marijuana is an excellent example (see footnote). These towns tend to be the origin of America's major liberal movements; Amherst's action is a great example there, too.

Amherst passed a referendum to this effect which, although powerless, sent a message to the police force of the town that they should focus on more important issues than busting hippies for possession.
