A
traditional dish of various
southwestern Native American tribes. You can make it yourself on a
camping trip to the
desert. Also spelled

Ingredients
- 1 paddle of the Prickly Pear Cactus
- Vegetable or animal oil, or butter.
- A pinch of salt
Equipment
- skillet
- saucepan (optional)
- pliers or leatherman
- knife
- campfire
Preparation
- De-thorn the cactus paddle. Use the pliers for the larger thorns, and singe off the smaller ones with the fire.
- Dice the paddle, or cut it into strips. You may also want to soften the cactus in boiling water at this point.
- Sautee the cactus with the butter or vegetable oil. Throw in onions or peppers for flavor.
- Add salt and serve. Goes well with eggs.
