Formulaic television series based upon the adventures of elderly murder mystery novelist, Jessica Fletcher, as played by Angela Landsbury. Each episode saw Jessica stumbling upon a death, usually committed under unusual circumstances. Often a friend of Jessica's would be fingered for the deed which motivates the amateur detective to discover the truth of the crime. Several obviously suspicious characters then present themselves to the sleuth and, using her ability to make completely unfeasible connections between clues, places and suspects she solves the mystery in time for a cheesy chortling scene with her chums. Popular with the elderly and those who should know better.
