A character on the cartoon show Heathcliff. Mungo was a very fat grey cat who was sort of slow. He wore a red cap and a red shirt. He was a blatant communist, despite the fact that Heathcliff himself was a democrat.

A fibrous material obtained by deviling rags or the remnants of woolen goods.

Mungo properly signifies the disintegrated rags of woolen cloth, as distinguished from those of worsted, which form shoddy. The distinction is very commonly disregarded. Beck (Draper's Dict. ).
