Mt Pinos is a mountain northwest of
Los Angeles, directly west of the
Grapevine. It reaches well over 8000 feet in elevation, making it the largest mountain west of the
San Gabriels in the
transverse range. It really isnt in any mountain range, as it sorta sticks out on its own, flanked by
Cerro Noroeste on its west and
Frasier Peak on its east. Its not too far from
Los Angeles and it has a paved road almost to its top - a few miles from the summit it turns to dirt and gets iffy for cars with low clearance. On a clear day you can see the
Sierras from up there.. on a clear night you can see a hell of a lot of
stars. This mountain gets a lot of
snow in the winter and is popular with people from LA wanting to feel a bit of
winter.
